About the Role
As a Loan Collection & Recovery Officer, your primary responsibility will be to maximize timely repayments of loans disbursed to smallholder farmers and cooperatives. You will proactively manage overdue accounts, execute collection & recovery strategies, and ensure overall portfolio health. You will need to be results-driven, assertive, and capable of building strong relationships with borrowers and cooperative leaders while ensuring financial accountability. Since we have a digital loan solution, you will work with loan files through digital channels, such as online portals and mobile apps. You will work closely with digital loan officers, credit management and product development to optimize the digital loan process.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct field visits to follow up on due and overdue loan repayments
Develop and implement strategies for timely loan recovery and reduce delinquency
Collaborate with cooperatives to ensure borrower compliance with agreed repayment terms
Lead repayment, collection and recovery campaigns during the peak collection seasons
Work closely with the credit risk and operations team to escalate and resolve complex default cases
Monitor repayment trends and contribute to the design of proactive risk-mitigation strategies
Educate clients on the importance of responsible borrowing and repayment discipline
Ensure clients understand the consequences of default and promote financial accountability
Work on continuous improvement of our digital loan solution; participate in product testing, pilot programs and market research.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field
Experience working with rural communities
Proven experience in loan recovery, credit control, or collections (preferably in rural/agricultural finance)
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a client-focused approach
Excellent verbal and written communication in Kinyarwanda and English
Familiarity with digital loan tracking, online portals and mobile banking applications
Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy while maintaining firmness
Able to work independently, with minimal supervision and manage multiple cases.
Willingness to spend most of the time in the field and travel extensively to remote areas, engaging with farmers, cooperatives, and local stakeholders.
Experience with cooperative-based lending models is a plus
Hands-on experience in solving incidents and improving processes will be valued
Experience of working in a fast-paced Fintech company will be valued
Experience in international collaboration (differences in cultures and context) will be valued
Age range: 20-30 years old
